Mental Health Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is an allied health profession concerned with promoting health and wellbeing through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists play an important role in rehabilitation and recovery. In the field of mental health, occupational therapists specialise in assessing how an individual’s mental health problems impact their ability to perform their everyday occupations and roles. Identified barriers are worked through via the development of goals and treatment plans. Becoming a registered occupational therapist in mental health requires the completion of a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and then demonstrated two years of post-graduate training and clinical practice in the field of mental health.

At Denison Practice, our mental health occupational therapist completes home visits, community engagement sessions and in-clinic sessions. Mental Health Occupational Therapists can work with clients with the following diagnoses: Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Dissociative Identity Disorder, ADHD, OCD, ODD, agoraphobia and other mental health conditions.
